What Bloggers Can Learn From Gordon Ramsay

This post was guest blogged by Brennan Heyde, an e-commerce consultant and web entrepreneur living in San Diego, CA.

After Shoemoney did a series of guest posts of “what an internet marketer can learn from …” it is only suiting that John Chow have a similar post, showing “what Dot Com Moguls can learn from … “ In keeping with John’s passion for great food, who better to learn from than master chief and reality TV star, Gordon Ramsay.

For anyone who does not know, Gordon Ramsey is one of the top chiefs and restaurateur in the food world. However, he is most recently famous for his reality TV shows Hell’s Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares, both on Fox. While his shows might be a little over dramatic, I find Gordon Ramsay to be quite a character. He is great to watch, very funny, charismatic, and tells people exactly how it is, leaving nothing back. (perhaps a little evil?) Watch this clip of season 2 highlights of Hell’s Kitchen and you will see what I mean.

So what can the wannabe Dot Com Mogul learn from Gordon Ramsay? Plenty. I got the idea for this post after a marathon of season 1 of Kitchen Nightmares. (pretty good show by the way) It became very evident why Gordon is so successful in his own Restaurants. He has some very unique qualities which are typical of many successful people. Here are three qualities wannabe Dot Com Moguls can learn from Gordon Ramsay.

1. Be Passionate

Without a doubt Gordon is one of the most passionate people I have ever seen. He lives, eats, breaths food and restaurants. He loves what he is doing and it is very evident in his shows. He is also very good at what he does. He knows what works and what doesn’t when it comes to running a restaurant.

The same quality can be applied to the wannabe Dot Com Mogul. Whether you are looking to start a “make money online” Blog like John Chow, or a Blog about personal finance, make sure you are passionate about the topic. If you are passionate about what you are writing about, it will show and you readers will be more engaged when reading your Blog.

2. Be Honest

One of Gordon Ramsay’s best quality is that he is not afraid to tell people exactly what he thinks. If you are doing a poor job he will let you know. If you have a bad attitude or incorrect mentality he will definitely rip into you and fix it real quick. He is not afraid to say what is on his mind. He is honest.

As a Dot Com Mogul making a living from blogging you should be honest with yourself and your readers. Don’t pretend to be someone you are not. Don’t just write about “How to make money online”, because John Chow makes over $27,000 a month doing it. You can’t fake knowledge and experience. Pick a topic you are truly passionate about and write about that. If you write about something you care about you will have a much easier time writing posts and you will actually enjoy it. Also be honest with yourself in the sense of having realistic expectations. Don’t expect to make $10,000 your first month. You have to work hard, creating quality content, generating traffic and also monetizing it properly in order to be successful.

3. Always Strive for Excellence

Usually in every episode of Kitchen Nightmares, there is a chief who has lost his passion for cooking, and it shows is his mediocre food, dirty kitchen, and lack of pride in his work. In comes Gordon, the master motivator and ultimate teacher. Usually by the end of the show he is able to light the fire under these chiefs. Through his passion and his experience he is able to show others that you must always strive for excellence. Don’t be content with mediocrity.

This is a great quality to have, not only in the internet world but in life in general. As a Dot Com Mogul making a living from your Blog, you need to be better than all your competitors. Your content must be better than others for your readers to consistently come back. Always be looking for new ways to monetize your Blog. Test, test, test. If your Blog is making $10 a day, push yourself to have it make $100 a day. Always strive for excellence. It will pay off in the end.

Gordon Ramsay may not know a thing about how to be a Dot Com Mogul, however with his personality traits and passion for success, he would quickly become a successful internet entrepreneur in no time. Learn from him and you too will be off to a great start as a Dot Com Mogul.
