What A $50 Million Orange County Home Looks Like

While checking out some homes for sale near my neighborhood, I came across this little abode at 13 Old Ranch Road. Known as Oceans 13, the estate is owned by SmartClixx founder Gary Dinkin and his wife, Lindy.

Mr. and Mrs. Dinkin bought the entire hilltop parcel (13-acre) in the gated community of Bear Brand Ranch to make sure their house was the only house at the top of the hill. It’s the largest parcel of land at Bear Brand Ranch and definitely the largest in Orange County with unobstructed ocean views. Most of the neighboring homes cost $10 to $20 million less and are on just an acre of land. If sold for the asking price of $50 million, this home will break the record as the most expensive sale in the area.

The house started as a barren hillside. Now it’s lined with hundreds of trees, including orange, grapefruit, banana, nectarine and peach trees, and thousands of plants. Trails were created throughout the 13 acres estate that can be navigated on ATVs.

The custom-built home spans 14,500-square-feet and has six bedrooms, ten bathrooms and pretty much every amenity you can think of. Why are the Dinkins selling it? Their two daughters left home to build their own fortunes so they’re finding the house a little too big for a retired businessman, his wife and two doodles. Even if you give each doodle a bedroom, you still have three more to spare!

The 500-foot driveway leads you to a custom, geometric glass-and-steel gate that Mrs. Dinkin herself designed and continues to the circular motor court and a stunning porte-cochère designed after the one at the Aria hotel in Las Vegas. The ideal entertaining home, the court has room for up to 30 cars. There’s also a separate eight-car garage for the owner’s private collection.

“My wife and I are very much into art, and our estate is full of it. In the front of our home, the porte-cochère has triangles that zig and zag out of it, and it was based on Israeli artist Yaakov Agam, who is known for his 3D paintings and sculptures.” – Gary Dinkin

Of course the home includes a gourmet chef’s kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances, bar, steam and infrared sauna, gym, movie theater, and ocean view game room with polished and honed limestone floors throughout.

The main floor primary suite showcases walls of glass opening to a vast balcony overlooking the ocean, a dual sided fireplace, and a large walk-in closet. Oversized Fleetwood glass windows and doors throughout let you gaze at breathtaking views.

Outside, the estate offers an extensive outdoor BBQ area with full kitchenette, over 2,500 square feet of decking with fire pit lounge, a negative edge pool with Baja shelf and glass bridge to the pool’s fire pit that seats 25, grand spa, waterfalls, and two putting greens. You entertaining will continue even during a blackout thanks to the full house generator with 95 solar panels and Tesla Powerwall backups.

Oceans 13 is listed for sale by California super realtor, Douglas Elliman. While the $50 million asking price may seem a bit steep, you can take comfort in the fact that monthly HOA fee is only $795, which is only a few hundred dollars more than my HOA. I think I’m living in the wrong gate community.
