Sights & Sounds From The World Cyber Games

The World Cyber Games held its official grand opening ceremony last night. Like all past WCG events, the ceremony was done Olympic-style, complete with the traditional parade of flags from the 74 competing countries. There was also B-Boy battles, videos, speeches from dignitaries around the world, and much more.

In keeping with the World Cyber Games tradition, there was also the moving and ceremonial Fair Play Oath, guaranteeing that each player will play fair, compete at the best of the abilities, and treat every opponent with respect. Doesn’t sound very evil, doesn’t it? No wonder the WCG won’t let me compete.

The games being played at the 2007 World Cyber Games include Counter-Strike, WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne, StarCraft: Brood War, Age of Empires III: The WarChiefs, FIFA 07, Need for Speed Carbon, Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars, Carom3D, Dead or Alive 4, Gears of War, Project Gotham Racing 3, and Tony Hawk’s Project 8.

Entering The World Cyber Games

Upon entering the QWest Field Event Center, you’re greeted by a giant spinning globe. There are red dots on the globe to indicate which countries are playing in the games.

Players and spectators watch the live gaming action on four big screens using what appears to be bean bag chairs.

A close up of the chairs. They actually look quite comfortable. I will try them out later today.

Here’s a video of the grand opening ceremony showing the parade of flags. The video also showed what the place looked like before it got filled up with people.
