We went to dinner tonight at M on the Bund (look for a review later) and got a chance to take in the amazing view of Pudong at night. No doubt about it. The skyline of the Pudong New Area ranks among the best in the world. And no where is the viewing better than on the Bund.
The Bund stands on the opposite side of the river that separates Pudong from the rest of Shanghai. The buildings on the Bund as as old as the buildings on Pudong is new. It’s quite a striking contrast. The Bund used to be where the rich European merchants would have their afternoon tea. They would sit in their patios and look out over the river at the peasants working the rice fields of Pudong.
Today, things are a little different. Pudong is no longer a rice field. It is now the heart of China’s financial center. Throughout Shanghai’s amazing growth, the Bund has managed to maintain its old world style. Many tourists come to the Bund to sample its world class shopping and dining spots. Everyone comes for the view. Pictures really don’t do it justice.
