How To Build Custom Audiences For Facebook Ads

Even though Facebook released their ‘Power Editor’ back in 2011, many marketers have yet to harness its power. There’s a whole new trend of marketers on Facebook that are dialing down to specific people by creating custom audiences.

How do we create custom audiences?

Step #1 – Get the Power Editor

It’s free and only available on Google Chrome. To get this application, click here:

Step #2 – Decide who you want to target

The success of any Facebook marketing campaign, or affiliate marketing campaign for that matter, rests on your ability to create an avatar. It has nothing to do with the movie. When you’re creating an avatar, you’re getting real clear as to whom you’re targeting, what they’re like, and what they’re interested in.

You do this by answering the following questions:

  • Who is my ideal customer?
  • What are they like?
  • What are their challenges?
  • Where would they like to be?
  • What are their interests?

Step #3 – Extract ID’s manually

It’s your choice whether or not you want to make a small investment or spend countless hours extracting Facebook ID’s. I’ll teach you both methods okay?

First, go to the profile of someone you want to extract. Second, right click on the page and select “Copy Link Address”. Here’s an example of such:

Third, eliminate the stuff you don’t need. In this example, you’ll want to eliminate before fbid= and after &set. The ID for this person is 4295495799483.

Step #4 – Extract ID’s with software

The software I prefer to use for extracting IDs is Social Lead Freak. They have great customer support. Don’t hesitate to use them. Some of the more common problems with this software include:

  • not being able to extract IDs from closed and secret Facebook groups. (Hence you can use the manual method)
  • having to be logged into Facebook from within the software for the extraction process to work.

You can use this software to extract ID’s from people that are participating on fan pages of industry leaders.

Conclusion

Make sure you’re extracting IDs of users that you want to target. This you can then upload into the Facebook Power Editor to create a custom audience. As you follow this process, you will dial in on your ‘ideal customer’ and experience much more rewarding ad experience. What questions do you have for me?
