Steven Spielberg took delivery of his 282-foot-long Superyacht, Seven Seas, back in 2010. Now, after over a decade of ownership, he’s made available for sale with an asking price of €131 million, or about $160 million at today’s exchange rate.
According to the sales broker, Seven Seas (named after not only the seven seas of the world but also his seven children) was built to Spielberg’s exacting specifications by the Dutch shipyard Oceanco with interior design by Nuvolari & Lenard and Molly Isaksen. The ship has four-deck, and can accommodate up to 20 guests in seven staterooms.
Onboard amenities, and there are lot of them, include a swimming pool, a couple of spas, a total of 17 televisions, a camera-quipped security system that includes a panic room, and smart home technology to control the lighting, climate, and audio-visual systems with an iPad.
The owner’s suite takes up an entire wing on the upper deck. The full-beam stateroom offers multiple seating areas, a private study, a dressing room lined with built-in wardrobes, and a bathroom that is larger than a typical Manhattan studio apartment. The owner’s suite also includes a private deck and hot tub built into the boat’s prow.
Given that Spielberg is a movie director, it’s not shocking that Seven Seas incorporates a state-of-the-art screening room to watch the latest Hollywood blockbusters. The theater offers tiered seating on plush sofas, a full bar, and a baby grand piano for no reason other than filling an empty space.
When you want to go on shore, Seven Seas offers a trio of onboard tenders to take you there. You’ll find them in the boat’s massive garage, along with three Wave Runners, four seabobs, and a slew of diving equipment.
Specifications shows the boat has a maximum speed of 19.5 knots (about 22 mph) and a crew of 28. It also carries 45,000 gallons of fresh water and 77,000 gallons of fuel that’ll allow it to cruise at 15 knots for 5,200 miles. In other words, when at cruising speed, this behemoth consumes 14.8 gallons of fuel per mile of travel.
With that level of conspicuous fuel consumption, you would think Spielberg is getting rid of the yacht to reduce his carbon footprint. However, that’s not the case. Instead, He has commissioned an even bigger boat to replace the Seven Seas. That’s a good thing. After all, how can anyone live on a boat that’s only 282 feet?
