If you want the most track-capable car you can legally drive on the street, and you have $2.5 million to spend, the McMurtry Spéirling is your e-ticket. This all-electric hypercar makes 1,000 hp, and has an active fan system that can generate 4,400 pounds of downforce. It also does zero to 60 in just 1.4 seconds!
We first saw the McMurtry Spéirling back in June when it set a new record at the Goodwood Hillclimb. With a time of 39.08 seconds, it beat the previous record by more than two seconds. Now McMurtry is producing a street version of that recording setting car, and CarWow got a chance to test it.
The first 16 minutes of the video give you a technical overview of the car and go into all the wild stats, like 1000 hp and 1000 kg weight. The acceleration tests begin a little past the 16-minute mark, and as you can imagine, it’s painfully quick.
With the electric motor set to 600 hp, the Spéirling blasted zero-to-60 mph in just 2.27 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 9.34 seconds. That’s Tesla Model S Plaid speed. However, crank it to its full 1,000 hp, and it do 0-60 mph in 1.4 seconds and run the quarter-mile in 7.97 seconds at 150 mph.
The amazing thing is, it could have gone much faster. The car is top speed limited to only 150 mph, a speed the Spéirling can hit in just 660 feet, or half the 1/4 mile. That means the car wasn’t accelerating for the second half of the 1/4 mile. Imagine how much quicker it would be if McMurtry removed the limiter!
