Are you tired for waiting for your Tesla Cybertruck? The good folks at Salvage 2 Savage were, and they decided to take things into their own hands by making their version of a Cybertruck. The end result is pretty ridiculous and extremely fast.
Salvage 2 Savage (S2S) is a car fabrication shop that takes salvaged cars and turn them into savage ones. Normally, they do this with gas engines but decided to enter the world of electric hot rodding with this 1985 Chevrolet C10 pickup truck.
The only thing that remained from the C10 was the cab shell. Everything else has been replaced. A custom frame was welded together to house the Tesla Model 3 battery pack and two Tesla Model S motors. The suspension system came from a Corvette. The project took eight months to complete.
Tesla electric motors have become the Chevy LS of the EV hot rod world. They’ve been used to convert AC Cobras, vintage Jaguars, Porsche 911s, and many other ICE cars into their electric equivalent.
In order to stand out in a crowd of a bunch of people, you kind of have to do something extreme, so that’s how we came up with this design. Having two Tesla motors would be like having two V8s in your truck. One of these motors would be sufficient to push this truck and have power and have a lot of fun. But again, you want to be fast, you want to be extreme, we’re gonna throw two of them in there.
The final result is a ridiculous ride that you can drive on the road, but not off the road. It is also ridiculously fast because the 1200+ hp of Tesla motors don’t have much weight to move around.
The Chevy C10 body is basically just a shell to make the ride look like a truck. It lacks any interior panels, fender liners or sound deadening materials. The only safety feature is a roll cage. It doesn’t have air bags are even seat belts! All this adds up to truck that weighs less than a normal Chevy C10, but with six times more horsepower!
Thanks to the relatively low weight and Corvette suspension, the Tesla-powered C10 is not only fast in a straight line, but can go around corners as well. Salvage 2 Savage plans to race the truck in a few autocross competitions, as well as race it down the drag strip. However, they don’t expect anyone to beat them in a drag race.
