The South Shore Grill is a family-owned restaurant, known for serving the best fish tacos, plate lunches, and sandwiches on the island. Located just outside of Waikiki, the Grill is far enough away to not get affected by tourist trap prices but close enough to be a short drive. It’s the perfect place to have lunch on your way to Diamond Head.
The South Shore Grill is comfort food at its finest. The place would be a great spot to host a Dot Com Pho meetup. You order your food from the counter and then wait at a table until they call your name. Sally really liked the colorful tables and chairs. The food presentation is nothing fancy – paper plates with plastic knives and forks. However, one bite and you will be hooked for life.
The Grilled Mahi plate with garlic butter was simply amazing. The fish taco taco was the best I have ever tasted. Don’t even get me started on that shrimp burrito. Oh man, talk about paradise on earth. That burrito was so fantastic, I had to order an extra one to go! The prices are extremely reasonable given the Grill is just a short drive out of Waikiki and on the way to Diamond Head. You would think they could charge a lot more but it seems most of their customers are locals. Lunch for five came in at only $30.
The South Shore Grill, along with Maui Mike’s, has been my two best dining finds in Hawaii. They have made this trip so worth it. Neither restaurants are fine dining by any means but their food blows away any fine dining establishments.
