The Koenigsegg CC850 is a reimagined homage to the very first Koenigsegg made, the CC8S. The CC850 was unveiled at at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering during Monterey Car Week and promptly sold out the entire run of 50 units.
The 50 in CC850 stood for Mr. Koenigsegg turning 50 this year and the fact that the car is limited to 50 units. However, because the car sold out sold out sold quickly, Koenigsegg announced it would expand the run by another 20.
According to the company, that initial allocation sold fast enough that a number of long-time Koenigsegg customers missed out on the opportunity to buy the $3 million megacar. Koenigsegg ended up going back to the 50 reservation holders to ask if they would be all right to make an extra 20 cars. The owner didn’t object so the run was expanded to 70. However, the car will still be called the Koenigsegg CC850.
The 50 in the CC850 will now just stand for Mr. Koenigsegg’s 50th birthday. The extra 20 cars represent the 20th anniversary of the company’s first production car, the CC8S, on which the CC850 is a homage to.
