Today we took the day off and decided to check out some big California attractions. Our choices were Universal Studio, Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm or Six Flag Magic Mountain. Stephen said he didn’t want to go on any sissy rides because he was a “real man” after drinking that Triple Zombie. So I told him that would mean the roller coasters at Six Flags!
Six Flags Magic Mountain has been around for 45 years. It’s known as the “Extreme Park†because it’s home to some of the biggest and fastest roller coasters in the world. One of them is call Superman The Escape. This is the first coaster to ever reach 100 MPH.
Superman is more linear accelerator than a roller coaster. The ride gives you a good idea of what it’s like to ride in a Ferrari Enzo because it goes 0 to 100MPH in less than 7 seconds. However, unlike the Enzo, once it reaches top speed, the ride shoots you straight up 400 feet to meet Superman himself. Then you free fall back down – hitting 100MPH again – before coming to a very rapid stop. Here is the video.
Superman was our last ride of the day. Our first coaster was the Viper and it scared the living daylights out of Stephen. He wasn’t sure he would be able to do the other coasters. However, I kept telling him that a “real man” wouldn’t whine like a pussy about it. If Viper scares the daylights out of Stephen, then the Goliath coaster put the fear of God in him because he really thought he was going to die. He truly wanted to quit after that and came up with a ton of excuses, ranging from “I’m going to throw up” to “I want my mommy!” My only reply to his excuses was “You’re making great blog material.”
All in all, we went on seven of the hairiest roller coasters in the world. Stephen now freely admits that he wouldn’t mind going on the girly rides at Disneyland next year instead of Six Flags. It takes a real man to admit that!
