9-Year-Old Buys Ford GT & Becomes Youngest Buyer At Barrett-Jackson

Nine-year-old Shelby Weerasuria has become the youngest owner of the first-generation Ford GT when he won the car with a $429,000 bid at the Barrent-Jackson auction in Texas. Shelby will have something to look forward to when he gets his drivers license. Hopefully, they still teach how to drive a manual in driving school.

While this does make a great story, and Shelby Weerasuria was the one who was bidding on the car, I’m pretty sure the registered owner is going to be Shelby’s father, Sriyantha Weerasuria. Mr. Weerasuria is an avid car builder, collector, racer, and enthusiast. However, instead of the senior taking the lead, it was Shelby bidding at the auction and taking home the big win. I say that’s a great way for a father to pass on the love of the car to the his son.
