After a few weeks in Vancouver and experiencing more rain in two weeks than six months in Orange County, I’m back in the OC for part two of Sally’s month-long birthday celebration. For this leg, we went sailing with some of her friends off the coast of Newport Beach.
Newport Beach is one of the most affluent cities in America. One-quarter of households have an income greater than $200,000, and the median value for homes is over $1 million. Newport Harbor, where our friend’s trimaran is located, is a semi-artificial harbor that was formed by dredging an estuary during the early 1900s. Several artificial islands were built, which are now covered with extremely expensive homes. Newport Harbor is one of the largest recreational boat harbors in the world.
Originally, we planned to spend a couple of hours out in the water, but Sally and her friends were having so much fun, we didn’t get back to the dock until four hours later. It was really great to able to spend an entire day with friends and family, knowing that my Internet business was making money while I was on a boat. That’s the Dot Com Lifestyle!
