I love my GoPro cameras. I have the original Hero and Hero2, which is my current Dot Com Pho and trade show camera. Well, it looks like I’m about to add another GoPro to the mix because the company has just announced the Hero3.
Available in white, silver, and black editions, The Hero3 takes video to the extreme. The new GoPros are 30% smaller, 25% lighter and 2X more powerful than previous models. They feature built-in Wi-Fi, which will allow you to control the GoPro with your iPhone using the GoPro iPhone app.
The Black Edition is the one to get. At $399, it’s the most expensive of the GoPro cams, but it’s also the most powerful. The biggest news is the ability to take videos at 4K. Mind you, the video will be a bit choppy since it can only do 12 frames per second at the resolution. However, you can get 30fps at 2.7K, 60fps at 1080p, and a super fast 120fps at 720p. The Black Edition is also the only GoPro with Pro Low-Light Performance for filming in dark situations. If you want to take pictures, the Hero3 Black Edition can take 12MP photos at 30fps Burst. That’s faster than any pro-SLR cameras.
According to the company website, you can pre-order your GoPro now and have it delivered to you around November 14. I can’t wait for mine. Below is a demo video filmed entirely with the GoPro Hero3 Black Edition. Make sure you watch it in HD and full screen.
